Why do I need a Wi-Fi connection?
Wi-Fi serves a few very important functions for Whistle 3 and is designed to give you the most comprehensive and accurate tracking:
- During activation, you will be required to setup a Wi-Fi network associated with your pet's Place(s).
- It allows Whistle 3 to quickly upload activity and location data about your pet so you can view your pet's latest info with the app on your smartphone.
- When your pet’s Whistle is connected to Wi-Fi, we know they are safe.
- When in Wi-Fi, Whistle 3 is in power save mode, preserving battery for when your pet leaves their Place. In power save mode, you are not able to track your pet as it is assumed they are safe when connected to Wi-Fi.
What comes in the box?
The Whistle 3 kit comes with everything you need to get started - the tracker, charger, collar attachment, and a quick start guide!
How do I attach and remove Whistle 3 from my pet’s collar?
The Whistle 3 comes with a snap collar attachment suitable for flat cloth or nylon collars up to 1” in width. For a video of how to attach the collar attachment and Whistle, click here!
How long does the battery last?
The battery life for Whistle 3 depends on various factors, primarily how much time your dog spends at home and how often you are tracking. If your dog spends most of their time within range of the Wi-Fi network at home, the battery will last the longest. If your dog spends more time away from home or in a Safe Place that doesn’t have Wi-Fi connected, the battery life will be shorter. For more information, check out our battery life breakdown here!
Note: Whistle will send a notification to your phone when your battery drops to 20% as a reminder to change!
How does Whistle track? Is it real-time?
Whistle is an assisted-GPS device, which means it uses information from both AT&T® cellular towers and satellites to triangulate its position and report it to you via the Whistle app. In order to find a balance between helpful updates and prolonged battery life, Whistle 3 is not real-time - you won’t see the icon for your pet moving on the map. When a location update is requested in the app, you will get an updated location on your pet within approximately one minute.
What cellular provider does Whistle 3 use and do I need to have that provider in order to use Whistle?
Whistle 3 utilizes AT&T®’s 3G cellular network to track your pet nationwide. Good news is, you do not need to have AT&T® as your personal cellular provider! Whistle is compatible with other carriers as long as there is sufficient AT&T® coverage in your area. If you have questions about AT&T® coverage in your area, feel free to chat us!
Is Whistle waterproof?
Whistle has a waterproof rating of IP67, which means it can be submerged in water up to three feet deep for thirty minutes at a time. We always recommend rinsing and drying the tracker thoroughly before placing it on the charger.
Can multiple people track the same pet from their phones?
Yes! With our Family Sharing feature you can add anyone that takes care of or needs to keep tabs on your pet—spouses, roommates, children, dog-walkers, and pet-sitters. To find out how, visit our support article on Family Sharing.
What is the money-back guarantee and return policy?
